EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

EMDR is a trauma-focused therapy developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro to address the deeply-held negative beliefs that emerge after a traumatic event. It uses bilateral stimulation to help people heal themselves (with the support and guidance of a friendly therapist) from whatever they’ve been through. Studies have demonstrated strong positive outcomes for survivors of all kinds of traumas. Currently, EMDR is one of the leading therapies used by the Department of Veterans Affairs to treat military veterans - but you don’t have to have survived combat to benefit.

I am trained in EMDR by the Institute for Creative Mindfulness.

Equine-assisted therapy

Horses are incredible animals who, like our fellow humans, can act as mirrors for our internal states. Following this principle, I partner with Great & Small Therapeutic Riding to offer equine-assisted therapy sessions at their facility in Boyds, MD. I am trained in the Arenas for Change (ARCH) model, which focuses on using horses to externalize and develop stories that help us better understand ourselves, our relationships, and the things we go through.

LGBTQ+

As a queer person, I cherish the opportunity to support my LGBTQ+ siblings - whether their identity is part of the therapeutic work they want to do or not. I also have extensive experience working with trans* teens and their loved ones as they all navigate their gender quest. No matter how you identify, rest assured that I will do my best to create a safe, affirming space to completely be who you are.

Please note: any discussions regarding gender-affirming care will only occur with well-established patients.
